slick soles, sore ankles

Date:January 9, 2010
These boots are made very well, and will probably last forever. The tags said that there is a steel shank in the arch-that'll be nice for kick starting my dirt bike (no more hurt arches from pushing on the kick starter!). The main problem I have with these boots is that the tongue is made of heavy leather that folds over on my ankle, so every step is an exercise in deep-breathing pain management technique, and no amount of break-in or adjustment is going to take care of this design issue. They HURT! I was excited to have some decent footwear to shovel and play in the snow with, but these soles feel very hard, like hard plastic, and are more slippery than my dress shoes on snow and ice, something I didn't think possible!

Rocky Ironclad 6" Steel Toe Work Boots

Date:July 29, 2009
First pair of Rockys are being used 8-10 hrs. a day as a professional landscaper. Making it through mud, stone, standing water and everyday abuse with flying colors. Comfortable right out of the box with plenty of support, cushioning and completely waterproof. Would recommend this boot to everyone.

The Rocky steel toe boot is my second Rocky brand boot. It served me well for almost two years and it didn't leak until the soles wore through. That is why I bought the second one. It saved my toe when I was on a tree with a machete cutting a branch when the blade went through and hit the steel toe. Thank you Rocky.

I own two other pairs of Rocky's and was in the market for a new pair of work boots when I ordered this boot. I was dissappointed by Rocky for the first time. These boots are heavy for their class, the soles extend almost a quarter inch per side beyond the footbed (a trip hazard, for catching on obstructions), the heel stress relief point was too low (causing friction on the sides of the heel) and possibly most distressing was the thick gussets on the tongue. They were too thick to do their job and ended up bunched and causing the inner shin great discomfort. I hope that in the future they will offer a better work boot, one with full grain leather that will stand up to the test of time and repeated soakings in the slush.

I wear these everyday at the launch pad. They are great for all the hazards we deal with. They did require a couple of weeks of break-in to get use to. There was a hard spot on the toungue that still bothers me but overall they are good boots.
