boots

Date:April 17, 2007
There is not enough traction on this boots, even on a slight incline on grassy terrain, I keep on slipping and falling down. Specially when going down a hill.
I like everything else about the boots, it is comfortable to wear all day, fits realy well on my wide feet. But the traction is my only problem.
I actually wish I could return them, but I had them for almost a year now.
This is the first time I had a complain about Cabelas product, I have been a customer of Cabellas for a number of years. I like all the products I bought from Cabellas but this boots.

Very comfortable, although a little warm during the early season when temperatures are warmer.

Chippewa Snake Boots

Date:May 4, 2010
I bought these boots 2 years ago and have used them on several "all day walking" hunting trips, so I now feel like I can give some feedback on them. The terrain was mid-west farm country with grassy hills and cornfields. Three words - I love 'em. These boots required very little break-in and have been comfortable from day 1. They are tall enough that grass seeds and particles don't get in your boots and cause discomfort. They are also very tough. I can't attest to their ability to keep snake bites off, but they sure do keep the briars and thorns at bay - its like having a pair of chaps without the extra weight. I looked at these boots in magazines for years before pulling the trigger - wish I had done it years ago.

Chippewa 17" Snake boots

Date:January 30, 2010
I have been watching these boots for some time now waiting for a sale. I finally got the chance to get them at a discount and I do not regret it. First of all they are MADE IN THE USA, in Ft. Worth, TX! I was sold at that point. They are well built boots with very thick quality leather for the lowers which would explain the long and extensive break in period. I really had to wear these boots A LOT before they softened up and did not bother me. That is not a bad thang as far as I am concerned. I suggest a good neatsfoot oil daily for a couple of weeks. Then I filled them up with water for about 3 hours until they were soaked through. I then wore them until they were completely dry (2 days in the south Texas brush country). I think I read that in a Louis L'Amour book but it works! They now feel like they are a part of my foot.
They run probably a 1/2 size big at least for me. I wear a 10 1/2 and wound up needing a 10, but, I buy a 1/2 size bigger than I need on any hunting/work boot and then put a high quality heat formed insole in the boot to form to my foot. Also note that if you are used to a lace up boot or shoe you will notice a lot of slippage in the heel area initially. This is normal for a pull on boot and will decrease and be less noticeable after the boots become broken in. Remember, wear 'em a lot to break 'em in!!! I cannot speak to "snakeproofness" but the uppers are a heavy leather/ballistic nylon combo. They are also very stiff at first but will eventually wrinkle and conform accomodate the ankles. BREAK IN, BREAK IN, BREAK IN!
I would have got the waterproof ones but I did not want to jinx the rain!! I feel like these boots will last a long time. They just have that "well made" feel. They were the most expensive on the display BUT they are made in the U.S.A. I do not mind paying a little more if I feel like I am getting my money's worth. I GOT THAT.

THE PERFECT BOOT

Date:January 6, 2009
This is my 2nd pair....the first lasted....well, they're still lasting. They've been underwater, caked in mud, they've been all through the desert in Southern California, I put a nice gash in the leather of the heel while hiking in the sharp volcanic rocks out West....and I've done numerous landscaping jobs in these boots. In the 8+ years I've had them, I've been fishing, hunting, hiking....you name it....in these boots and the've stood the test of time. They get amazing traction.....which is interesting since the tread wore off long ago. They're basically slick on the bottom now....but the compound is perfect for traction on rocks. They fit like they were made for my foot....and I got a new pair simply because I think the first pair look a bit rough. When they die....I wanted another pair waiting in the wings. Now I have them. If there was one pair of boots to have before you die.....this is the pair. Buy these boots, and don't look back. They're worth every penny.

Road tested, customer approved

Date:May 26, 2007
I purchased these boots in the summer of 2006. They accompanied me on a mission trip to D.R. Congo. They protected me from a green mamba that I didn't see while working in the forest.
Since the three months in Congo the boots have held up great while I put them through winter and summer temp's in Kentucky. After a year of wear the tread on the sole is finally starting to run down. They are more comfortable than ever though.
So far in the year I have had these boots they have received a total of five bites from snakes. None of which penetrated the boot. Because of that I am very satisfied.
If you are looking for something that will protect your feet and still has non-redneck style to it, these boots are awesome.
If the new Chippewa snake boot is just as good I would recommend it. Cabella's carries it. It's another $20 but it's waterproof. Which is one thing I wish these had been.
