My new 390 doesn't work at all., February 27, 2010
By disapointedInMaine from Maine

"I waited for 10 days to get this scope and read the manual, set it up and it didn't work. Tried new batteries and could only see the faintest of green on the most reflective things in the room with the IR on full. The reticle works fine but what good does that do when you can't see ANY target at all. Is this a common event? Am I wasting my time returning it for exchange? I can't explain how disapointed I am with this situation."

exactly what it should be, February 15, 2010
By CrazedArcher from Upstate, NY

"This night scope was what I expected and a touch more. I can easily see to 100 yards. A bit blurry on the edges, no big deal. IR unit works very well. I can read a license plate at 50+ yards. Nothing like what we have in the army (gen 3), but exactly what you should expect for gen 1 and a bit better.

Accurate and repeatable. Crosshairs are plenty bright to sight in at dusk with filter on.

Yote scope, January 15, 2010
By bigbuckmass from Mass

"This scope works great out to 50 yards. Any distance over that its start to get tough. Its like trying to shoot 100 yards with a red dot scope. Image is very sharp. Great scope for the money."

Bad luck?, October 12, 2009
By pp49 from Lake Charles, LA

"The first time I looked through this scope I was impressed. The picture at night was very clear, and with the infra red illuminator I could see well at 100yards. I was also surprised to find that I could see the cross hairs well enough to sight in during daylight. After trying for most of an afternoon I realized that I was unable to get the scope to stay on target, the scope would not hold zero. I returned it and was satisfied when the replacement shot good groups at 100yds. However, the second time I took that scope out, the point of impact had shifted about one foot. As I was trying to sight the scope back in, bullets started straying, and the best I could get was about 18 inch "groups" at fifty yards. I will be returning this scope too."

paladin 390, September 14, 2009
By TC1 from Brandon, MS

"I purchased from Cabela's after reading the good reviews. The night I opened it, I looked across a pasture on clear full- moon night and was pleased at how well I could see. I mounted it and used it the next night on a full moon with 50% cloud cover. My purpose was to shoot beavers in a small pond. I was disappointed that I could not use it to detect beavers even less than 40 yards away. I guess a dark beaver in dark water is just too hard. I used a cheap 90 lumen flashlight to find the beavers, and then holding the flashlight I could use the night scope to shoot at them. Of course I could have done that with any scope, and shining a light defeats the pupose of using night vision. I did compare it to a Gen 1 bushnell monocular that I own, and the paladin was definitely brighter. I think it would work fine seeing pigs in an open field on a full moon, but it did not work for beaver control. I returned it to Cabela's and will likely buy a weapon-mounted light.
Also, when mounted on an AR15, the mount makes it difficult to reach the charging T-handle.

Paladin 390 Review, July 23, 2009
By Gartman from Romance, WI

"Decided to give one of these a try after reading the other reviews on the 390 and am not dissapointed in the least. In fact the scope is as good as the GEN II NVG's I've used as a soldier as far as image sharpness. The scope does has a limited FOV and needs the illuminator in total darkness and is heavy but that is to be expected for most any night vision device/scope. The scope base is well made and very solid and the illuminated reticle is also good.
My only problem with the 390 is that I keep moving it from gun to gun!

"I was so impressed with the visual acuity of this Gen 1 I will tell all my friends. I only sighted it in at 50 yards on my AR but will have it at 100 yards soon. May even get it to 150 yards. was very impressed with the IR in almost total darkness.
Look out varmits and hogs!
Well done on this choice Cabelas and way to go ATN

ATN Aries 390, May 20, 2009
By brokes22 from Athens, GA

"The product works exactly as it should and with the IR turned on, you can clearly see out to 85-100 yds on a good moonlit night. I use the scope for hog hunting, (which is legal in my state at night) and it performs perfectly. If you are looking for a good, low-budget NV scope this is the ticket."

Own the night, April 8, 2009
By mustangjs from Long Island, NY

"After doing quite a bit of searching for NV scopes the paladin seems to be a good fit for the price.

This is my first NV scope so not much to compare but operation is very easy, focus is good and the adjustable brightness crosshairs are great.

Field of vision is limited due to Gen 1 and Optics but out past 30 yards this is quite ample for most purposes.

IR illuminator is a must and works very well to about 60 yards depending on terrain.

Consider additional IR illumination if you need addirional range.

By BobHicks from Georgia varmint hunter

"Well built instrument, functions well for the intended purpose. must use ir unit, no real problem there. company rep. says sight in @ 25yds. and 100 yds with cover in place 30 minutes before sunset and shoot normally after sunset with cover off. Laser bore sighter can be used to sight in. Apparently muzzle flash is not harmful. Instruction manual updated with more info would be very helpful."

MK 390 Paladin, January 15, 2009
By Petropo from Bay Minette, AL

"The MK390 is not a true nightvision scope, it only works with an infrared source which comes with it, not off the stars or moon. It also says that it is 4x magnification, but mine does not appear to be magnified at all. The infrared light that comes with it, you can see very easily if your looking at the scope. It appears as a Quarter sized red light. With the infrared light on you can see over 150yds. on a clear night. I got mine to get rid of coyotes and the infrared light does not seem to bother them. The scope is heavy and you cannot hold your gun up for very long looking through it. Overall I like mine and it does what I want it to do."

ATN MK-390 Paladin Nightvision Riflescope, January 6, 2009
By OleCowboy from Reed Point, Montana

"The generation 1 Paladin nightvision riflescope was poor at best even with snow on the ground. I would not recommend purchasing a generation 1 nightvision scope or monocular unless you have very close nightvision viewing in mind. The ATN series optics were clear, but even with great starlight that we have here in Montana, the viewing was poor. I would recommend purchasing scopes or monoculars with generation 2 or better optics."

better than i expected, December 2, 2008
By DinkB from Red River County, TX

"the mk-390 is much clearer than i expected. i was able to site in my varmint rifle at 75 yds on an overcast, moonless nite. it is a little heavy, at 2.5 pounds, but a good bipod helps that not be a problem. now i'm looking forward to making some progress against our coyote population."

This thing works!, November 28, 2008
By Parson from Dover, OK

"I finally had the chance to take my 390 out into the woods. Sitting next to a 40 acre rye field on a clear night with just a sliver of moon, I could see everything. I could monitor the entire 40 acres. The only downside for me is that I wanted to mount it on a Savage 22 magnum bolt action, and the scope mount comes back too far. The bolt won't open. Mounted on a Ruger 10/22 it's quite usable, but I have to lean forward a bit awkwardly. I'm going to replace my rifle stock with a youth length one, and it'll be perfect for late night rodent and predator control."
