Cabela's Cabela's Big Sky 27-80 Waterproof Spotting Scope

This spotting scope offers all the components you need for the field. This waterproof zoom scope has a 80mm objective lens that lights up your surroundings during low-light prime hunting times at dawn or dusk. All optics are fully multicoated to guarantee maximum brightness, resolution and clarity. Black, rubber-armored coating is silent if you happen to bump it and helps absorb shock if you drop it. Waterproof construction withstands anything Mother Nature throws at you. A retractable sunshade eliminates glare if you're forced to view toward the sun. Molded sight railing helps locate your subject. Taped for standard tripod use.

Cabelas Big Sky 27-80 waterproof spotting scope

Date:February 6, 2011
Great Scope, field of view is smaller than I thought it would be, but certainly not a deal breaker. The tripod that came with the scope is a definite must for steadyness to use with that much magnification. The scope is very clear and sharp as I compared it with a friends Swaroski 20 x 60 spotting scope. I would recommend buying a 20 x 60 model instead of the 27 x 80 model to gain a bigger filed of view. I also rarely magnify past 30x and believe you would get more flexibility of the smaller scope for overall size and magnification use.

long range vision

Date:March 22, 2010
The HD capability of my new Cabelas spooting scope is a remarkable difference from a regular scope. I compared it to glass costing much more and ti was hard to tell the difference. The rubberized coating and the ease of finding my target are nice features. The value is amazing!

Big Sky 27-80x80

Date:September 10, 2007
This unit, because of the high power, will challenge anyone if they don't have steady hands and a good tripod. Don't give up until you find the tripod that gives you what you need. I take hand held digital photos at 80 power and after enlarging count elk antler on the computer. Clarity, even on hazy days, is good relative to other units in this price range. Focus does change as power is increased but image can be refocused without losing target.

Big Sky 27-80 Spotter

Date:December 16, 2006
I compared this spotter against other moderately priced popular brands and it won hands down. The optical clarity was much better at higher magnification than the others. Finding long range objects is a little difficult but it can be done with reasonable speed with some practice. I have been able to see .17 caliber bullet holes at 250 yards in paper with this spotter during mid day conditions. I have also used it to observe satellites and other stellar objects. Overall its a very good product.

Looking Good ?

Date:November 26, 2006
The glass on this particular spotting scope was very good in regular light but not as clear as I had hoped for in early dawn and at dusk. As far as overall clarity it was great. It was a bit difficult to get focused as well as to get on target as it was advertised with a sight but it did not really have a good system for getting on target fast.
I would definitely recommend this product as a scope for a bench rest shooter or casual observer of game, stars, etc as long as you have a good tripod.

No Eye Relief

Date:February 8, 2011
Optically, it's an excellent scope, but there is almost zero eye relief. If you wear glasses, forget it. Why no carring case?
