defective

Date:December 9, 2008
The mounting screw on this scope was too long and when tightened, it jammed the cam which triggers the slide hold-back making itinoperable. In addition, the left hand screw for the reticle was not tightened. This is not at all obvious, but it made it impossible to zero the scope until I discovered it after a lot of frustration.

Scope&Mount

Date:May 31, 2008
Installed on my mini-14 and I didnt like the scope at all, the glass seemed ok but the knobs on this thing is terrible. And it was a pain to just get it mounted correctly on the rifle. I ended up sending this back for a refund. Poor quality for the price, DONT waste your money.

No good

Date:May 7, 2008
I bought this thinking a) it would be easy to install and b) would allow me to use my sights.
Well, it was not easy to install - you have to grind down the mounting tab (not your gun, as another reviewer seemed to think). This was a pain and took a lot of time (trial-and-error) - not at all an "easy installation". I feel certain that Ruger doesn't build a lot of variance into this part of their rifles - why can't the scope mount just fit out of the box??
The mount DOES allow you to use your sights, which is good since you'll be using them even with the scope on the gun. I never could sight in the scope, horizontally. The horizontal adjustment never would adjust far enough to the left. When looking more closely at the mount, it really seems to aim towards the right. Maybe this happened during the grinding part of the installation, although that doesn't really involve grinding the whole mounting plate (and changing the angle on the bottom), just the edges.
Also, I can't say for sure since I didn't try - but I doubt you can return a scope with a mount you've just finished grinding. Since I'm stuck with it, maybe I'll just work on grinding the mounting plate to angle the scope over to the left a bit - why not?

Misleading info in cataog

Date:October 9, 2007
Received the scope, opened the box and immediately read the instructions which requires partial disassembly of the weapon and modification with a "dremmel tool".
The catalog says "no gunsmithing required".
I have no problem with partial disassembly, but I'm not going to go out and buy a dremmel tool and grind on my rifle so the scope will fit.
The catalog should come right out and say..."partial rifle disassembly required" as well as "filing or modification with a Dremmel tool is required".
This was not a cheap ordeal, as I was required to pay shipping to have the scope delivered and to return it.

Optics Bad and lousy instructions

Date:August 6, 2007
The instructions on mounting and sight adjustment extremly poor. Sighting instructions non existant. Mount is firm and steady, but the scope itself is medioccure.
