Alaknak Tent

Date:June 22, 2009
I am very pleased with my recent purchase of the Alaknak 9.5 X 9.5 Tent. I used it last week on a fishing outting in Eastern Oregon. I used all the assessories....tent floor and stove protector fly. Both were very well designed and worked very well. I was impressed with the design and engineering that went into the tent. Window and vent flaps are well positioned and easy to use from both the outside and inside. Putting the tent up was very straight forward and the instructions specific and very readable. It rained and blew hard on this trip and the tent met every test. I had to put it away wet but when I got home I found it was easy to clean and dry out. It is a wonderful tent that met and exceeded all my expectations. One note though.......it is rated a 4 person tent! That would only apply if there were no cots or stove. It fits two cots and a stove very comfortably. 2 cots and 1 on the floor with stove would fit but it would be tight.

Could be better

Date:June 11, 2009
"I have the 9.5x9.5 version and have used it for 3 years, 6 different hunt camps, & 2 fishing trips. Let's start with the pluses:
1. Excellent to set up (I'm usually by myself).
2. Great standing design for high winds (75mph + wind/thunderstorm, lasted for about 1 1/2 hours, only tent left standing around the lake. ).
minuses:
1. Top vents! Way to drafty! They can't be closed. I am aware of the need for venting due to condensation & potential life risks... but the user should be given the choice. When its my time to go at a hunting camp would be at the top of my list!!
2. Sidewall vents! 3 little 1" strip of velcro at the top of the "inside closure flap". What a joke! With the inside flaps closed and the outside flaps dropped the wind still came on in. The user should have the choice to "completely" close them.
3. Built in doorway vestibule should be wider. A person has to duck to get in the door but has to duck lower just to get inside the vestibule before the door. I've experienced this on the 12x20 also. The frame is in the way when a person carries things in and out.
I would not recommend this to a friend that would use it for winter hunting camps unless they were from a warm weather state.
In conclusion... As soon as I sew on some velcro for the inside vent flaps, make a closure flap for the top vents, add a foot to the sidewall height, and get new poles for that I might then give it 5 stars."
