Drift 3/4 - Old School Clicker with a new Twist

Date:February 9, 2011
Redington just seems to get it when it comes to great looking and performing gear at reasonable prices. I purchased the Drift 3/4 to go on the Cabelas 50th Anniversary CGR 4 wt I also purchased - what a sweet little setup! The Drift is absolutely one of the nicest click reels I've ever seen or tried. I'm a bit of an old school guy and love a good clicker reel; and this is indeed a good one. The lovely Ti/silver color is subtle in appearance and the mid-arbor design is a great twist on the old school adjustable double pawl clicker design. The reel "sings" with authority and I guess I must say, if you aren't the type who likes to hear your reel, you won't want this one! Get a big fish on and It's click will definitely be heard! I happen to love the sound of a good click pawl reel...and the adjustment on this one is actually noticeable, with a nice solid stop at both ends of adjustment. It's got a good bit of resistance for a non-disc drag reel at the highest setting, enough to slow any trout or panfish, but there will be no problem protecting light tippets either. I would say this reel is best suited to a 3 wt WF line as far as backing goes, and will probably hold 75-100 yards of 20 lb, or close to it's rated capacity. With my DT4F it holds about 25 yards of 20 lb, which is still more than enough on small creeks. In my opinion, this is an extremely nice classic looking fully machined reel (the non-spool side looks like a standard arbor reel) with great quality and a lovely finish, and it's also very light - suitable for your light 2-4 wt rods and line. To top it off, its got a great warranty and it's reasonably priced...Recommended!

Redington Drift Fly Reels

Date:November 14, 2014
I own three of these reels and have recommended the purchase to friends who also enjoy fly-fishing. For fishing small waters with light rods for so-called pan-sized trout, up to 12 inches or so, these reels will not overbalance a 7 1/2 ft. rod, in 3 wt. because they weigh about 3.5 ozs. empty. There is enough space on the spool for any weight-forward line or a small-diameter double taper in a 3 wt. An elaborate drag system is not needed for small trout in small streams. I have not used the 5/6 size, but the construction is simple and reliable.

Great traditional reel at a low cost.

Date:October 8, 2012
I origonally got this reel with the 50th anniverasry CGR 4 wt rod. Awesome setup but recently got the CZN 4 wt 10 ft rod. Again, awesome setup. Nicely machined reel that balances well with both rods. Very affordable. This reel shares double duity for me living in S. Jersey. I have to travel about 2 hours for some quality stream or river trouting (which I do about 3 to 4 times a year) but spend most of my time in the numerous warm water lakes here in S. Jersey. This reel is just plain fun with a 2 to 3 lb bass or a pickeral on it. You do get attention from others when they hear it scream. I would buy again in a heart beat.

Great reel

Date:June 29, 2012
I paired the 5/6 model with a favorite 5-weight fly rod and am very happy with it. It's a sweet reel at a sweet price. It's light weight, has a great drag and lots of line capacity, and looks good to boot. Now I want to get the 3/4 model for my 4-weight fly rod.

Great little reel with one minor hickup

Date:June 3, 2011
I won't say anything negative about this reel, I bought a 2/3 size to use on a 2 wt, 4 piece pack rod for use on little mountain streams & for that purpose I feel it's perfect. I almost fell over when I read the warentee provisions included with the reel by Reddington. You must pay all shipping, provide dated proof of purchase, (Hold your Cabela's invoice) & then, repair will be at the judgement of Reddington, so if they feel you misused the reel, say you dropped it accidently, the warentee isn't worth the paper it's printed on, Disapointing to say the least.

The Drift - recommend!

Date:May 8, 2011
This reel is solid. Lightweight. All metal. No frills, but no skimping either. After paying for drag mechanisms I never needed, this is my go to for trout out east. Nice finish, and like Zug said, it has a nice audible click.
