Customer Reviews for TFO TFO Deer Creek Spey Fly Rods

TFO TFO Deer Creek Spey Fly Rods

For a collective 65 years, two Pacific Northwest spey casters, Mike Kinney and Bob Meiser have perfected this art and have shared their knowledge through guiding, teaching, and perhaps most importantly, by designing a new line of spey rods, the Deer Creek series of two-handed rods. The Deek Creek Series rods have casting properties that marry perfectly with modern spey lines. They have a traditional action making them ideal for executing all types of spey casts. These blanks are a beautiful translucent dark amethyst color with fittings and components selected by Mike and Bob. Images depict the style of the rod handle and may not fully represent the actual length.

Beautiful and Great Performance

Date:December 14, 2010
Picked up the 8 wt. Switch for swinging flies to steelhead. This is by far the prettiest TFO I've ever seen. Cork is sweet and blue blank with copper wraps is gorgeous.
With a Rio Skagit Short in 475 grain, plus a 5' cheater it casts like a beast! I was quickly banging out long, accurate casts and I'm a novice to Spey casting.
First fish landed as an 8# charged-up hen and the rod had plenty of fighting power.
Haven't yet fished it with indicator line and rig. I think it may be a LITTLE heavy for that, but not positive.
Best part? The surprisingly low price for a rod of this quality. I also like the TFO lifetime "no questions" warranty.

TFO 13' 7/8wt

Date:December 23, 2009
Purchased this rod on my way down to the Deschutes as my first spey rod for steelhead. I had heard many good things about these rods from other fisherman prior to making my choice. Took some basic casting lessons from a friend of mine and it was off to the races. The quality of the build is very good. The rod handled well and was well balanced and comfortable for many hours of casting. I was pleased with the ease at which the rod handled sink tips and two fly rigs. Most of the time we were fishing big skating flies with a large wet trailer and this rod handled the loads very well.

!3'6" 8/9 Spey rod

Date:December 11, 2009
This is a great rod for the person who wants one rod for a variety of conditions. Cast with a 600-650 grain weight line. Casts sink tips well. Light in the hand and produces effortless casts. Paired with a Ross CLA6.....my new love. Great for salmon/steelhead.

TFO Deer Creek Spey Rod

Date:April 1, 2008
Haven purchased a TFO fly rod before and been very pleased with the rod I again purchased a TFO Deer Creek Spey Rod . This rod designed by Bob Meisier and Mike Kinney is a pleasure to cast. Using a 650 grain Skagit line it's a cannon to cast, beautful action, smooth delivery and a pleasure to watch the tight loops roll out over the water, this rod preforms excellent.
