REMINGTON Remington® R51 Handgun

The Remington R51 Handgun is a modern version of Remington's original Model 51, designed in 1915 by John Pedersen. The Model 51, considered ahead of its time, became one of General George Patton's personal side-arms during World War II. The Remington R51 Handgun modernizes and updates Pedersen's design to work with 9mm Luger cartridges while maintaining the personality, shooting characteristics and size of the original. The R51 averages 25% less muzzle flip with the lowest bore axis in the industry. It has intuitive pointing characteristics with optimized grip angle. This highly concealable pistol with a match-grade 3.4" barrel and bushing handles +P factory ammunition. It uses a hammer-fired, Pedersen action with a locked breech and fixed 416 stainless steel barrel. The slim, aluminum frame has 25-lines-per-in. checkering on the front grip strap and drift-adjustable sights. Ambidextrous magazine release allows left- and right-handed shooters to easily eject the flush-fitting, seven-round magazine. Two magazines included. Features a CCW trigger system. A built-in Crimson Trace® Laserguard® model is also available.

Amazing pistol

Date:May 5, 2014
I was apprehensive at first, but once I got the gun shipped to my LGS I quickly took it home to test fire it. I have put about 200+ rounds of regular 9mm Remington UMC 115 gr. and an additional 50 rounds of Hornady 9mm+P 135 gr.
All of which fired without issue. I didn't have a single out of battery fire or failure to extract as mentioned in the online video's. I've taken the pistol apart and reassembled it multiple times and it is just as easy to assemble as any typical 1911, glock etc.
I have enough confidence in it, that it is now my conceal carry pistol.

Totally Unacceptable

Date:April 17, 2014
If you are seriously thinking of buying one of these, please take the advice of the Cop145 review and Google the R51. I recommend watching several videos from Tactical Existence too.
My R51 is back at Remington since Apr 1. I've had all of the same problems as others with the sticking open slide with no mag plus FTF on each trip to the range. I cleaned, lubed, and carefully re-assembled the slide and slide lock pin correctly. In the month it was in my hands, it wouldn't fire a single round of any 9mm ammo.
I too was excited to own this handgun because it was U.S. made and General Patton carried it's direct ancestor.
If this is an example of our current U.S. quality control, I will never let go of my Italian and Czech manufactured nines. They went bang right out of the box. No one to blame here but myself for being an early adopter.

R51 too bad

Date:April 14, 2014
I really had high expectations for this pistol as I own two original R51's ... .380 and .32
What a disappointment, very poor quality control issues. The rear sight fell off and slide jams constantly. As of this writing it is back at Remmington getting looked at.
<Do yourself a favor and Google the R51>.
It's true, my gun was that bad. Maybe I got a lemon but I don't think so. Wish I had something positive to say, but I don't.

Great Gun

Date:April 11, 2014
Only ran 50 rounds through it so far, but great little gun. Seemed a little rough out of the box but smoothed up quickly. Better trigger than all those striker fired guns that I have tried. Metal, not plastic. Different takedown procedure, but, read the manual guys, its not that hard.

R51 not as great as it was advertised

Date:April 4, 2014
I was so excited to buy this gun I was hesitant with the purchase after I got to hold it and the action wasn't smooth. Some reviews said it smoothed out so I went ahead with the purchase. The pistol was more than difficult to disassemble and for any beginning shooter I don't recommend and the reason for the one star is that this was marketed to be able to slide back with one finger and that's not true and this gun is not reliable enough to carry and trust my life with, which was also how it was advertised. The action was so rough it scratched the barrel and the grip safety stuck until I fixed that myself.

Remington R51

Date:March 23, 2014
No major issues to date. I think this will be a great ccw gun. Slide action smooths out after a few hundred rounds however the slide release is still alittle stiff. This gun is all metal and no polymer AND its made in the USA. Cant go wrong with that!
