savage model 16FHSAK 308 Win

Date:January 21, 2010
Great rifle. Mine is the model with the compensator on the muzzle in 308 Win. The compensator makes the recoil feel like that of a 243. I shoot less than MOA at 100 yrds all day long with 44.5 gr of varget using the new hornady GMX bullets in 150 gr. Already taken an Axis buck and most recently a nice Turkey gobbler on the last day of deer season for the south zone. Nailed him at 168 yards. Great rifle. Follow general break in procedure of cleaning after every shot for ten shots and then after every 3 round group for 4 groups and then after every 5 round group for 4 groups and cleaning now is as easy as running a patch thru the bore with butches bore cleaner and letting it sit for 5 min and then running a patch thru to dry it out. The bore mirror shiny now. It can be a hassle to some but IMO it will be worth it in the long run. I have invested a good amount of money in this rifle and hope my son will some day be using it.

Model 16 with Accu-Stock:A Little Disappointing...

Date:June 24, 2010
I have had a bunch of LH Savages over the years, the most recent being the new Weather Warrior with Accu-Stock in 308.
I have to say given the price & hype I was disappointed with this rifle. Something not widely advertised is the Accu-Trigger on the Sporter models is different than that on the LE and Varmint models, nowhere near as smooth and cannot be set as light. The best I could get the trigger on my Model 16 was an inconsistent and gritty average of 3 lbs 15 ounces, far too heavy & rough for repeatable accuracy. The Accu-Stock is a clever design, but very difficult to take on & off to adjust the trigger & maintain the action. Far and away the most difficult to work with full length bedding block stock I have used. The bolt release on the Accu-Stock model is a plastic button in front of the trigger guard, not the easy to use release on the back rear of the action that Savage owners are acustomed to. Accuracy was good/pretty good but not great. All in all I was expecting, well... more out of this rifle. IMO for the cost of this Model 16 a guy is much better off going with a Remington 700 CDL or Tikka T3...

My first bad savage rifle

Date:August 17, 2010
I bought a new Savage 116 weather warrior in 30-06 with a detachable mag. I was so excited to handle and shoot this rifle. This gun was my 7th savage and all my other savage rifles were tack drivers.
My first disappointment happened when I found the trigger screw in the rear was stripped out. After taking the rifle to the range, I found my second disappointment. This rifle wouldn't shoot more than 2 1/2" groups. I tried different brands of ammo, different weights, and different scopes. Just to see if it was me, I grabbed my savage 270 and put three shots downrange. A dime could have covered that group.
This rifle was shot off a lead sled at 100 yards. After I sold the gun, I read on a savage shooters forum about some of the innaccuracy related to the savage wedge found in the accustock. If this is the accuracy I can expect from this new accustock, I will stick to pre-accustock models with the accutrigger.

Awesome Gun!

Date:December 5, 2010
I bought the .243 model. And what a tack driver!!! I shot 1'' groups at 300 yards and bullet holes through bullet holes at 100 yards. I love this gun it's easy to carry, the bolt is smooth, the banlance is perfect. I wish it had a detachable magazine. that's the only bad thing I have to say about it.

Great hunting rifle

Date:August 8, 2011
I've had my model 16 in 300WSM for 3 years now and am very pleased with its performance it has shot 3/4" groups with multiple factory loads and gets 5/8" to1/2" with handloads which is more than good enough for hunting any big game
