Great Ammo

Date:November 27, 2012
The ammo came in a great dry storage box and was shipped quickly and nothing was damaged. Can't wait to take it to the range to see how it fires.

Good rounds, good price

Date:October 17, 2012
Ive fired over 500 rounds through my sks and never once have i had a FTF or FTE. These rounds are great to shoot and just not on the wallet either. Im getting great groupings at 100 yards (about 10 inches) and Ive never had a problem with them being too dirty.

Herter's 7.62x39 mm IS reliable ammo

Date:July 28, 2012
I have been using Herter's for almost a year in my Romainian AK-47, mainly because it is cheap. I have shot slow-fire, short bursts and emptied 30 rnd mags as fast as I could pull the trigger. Haven't kept a close count but have fired probably well over 1,000 rounds with ZERO problems.
Recently had a few FTE's in my new Century Centurion AK style assault pistol but probably because it is 100% American made with tighter tolerances than the Eastern European AK-47's. It is still new and tight but should eject better when broken in. Most problems with this ammo seem to be with non-AK-47 rifles (e.g., Ruger mini 30).
It is a little dirty -- like all Russian ammo but not a problem for me considering the low cost. If you have trouble with this ammo, you'll probably have to switch to a much more expensive domestic brand.

Pretty darn good ammo

Date:March 31, 2012
I have 3 different SKS's, made by 3 different manufacturers-Yugoslavian, Russian, And Chinese Norinco. I've had serious problems with other ammo brands- FTF, FTE,etc.- but NEVER a problem with Herter's ammo. It's the ammo I use exclusively when I want to plink w/my SKS's.

No Problems

Date:January 25, 2012
I bought 500 rds of 122gr FMJ. I shot 200 rds, some at rapid fire and never had a problem with my WASR 10/63 AK47.
After reading the reviews, it appears the shooters having the problems are using mini 30s.

Reliable and Economical

Date:January 11, 2012
I would say my fail to fire rate is MAYBE 1 out of 500 which I find to be great for mass produced steel cased ammunition. I tell all my friend's to buy this stuff in quantity. If you have a failure to chamber or eject issue you should be looking at your rifle and magazine combination.

Excellent ammo

Date:December 29, 2011
I bought 500 rounds a while back and finally got around to shooting some last month. This stuff was great! My WASR 10 not only ate it up but at 50 yards it was going EXACTLY where I wanted it. I was getting groups of less than 1 inch with iron sights. And for me that's saying something. When it comes to shooting I'm average at best.

Shoots fine... now

Date:December 20, 2011
Using a Yugo SKS I found on average one dud per 10-round clip I fired. Not good, but I also knew that retail ammo doesn't always work in SKS rifles; it was built to shoot military rounds made from state arsenals.
I upgraded my firing pin using a spring kit; recommended in any case to prevent slam fires. Never had another FTF after the new pin went in.
This ammo leaves a lot of dirt in the gun but I figure I have to clean it anyway. At least it's not corrosive, so I don't have to worry about pitting if I don't clean it right away
Cabelas sells it for a little more than what you can find online but once you figure in shipping (and you pick it up at your local store), it's about the same price as misurp but it's not corrosive like milsurp. Plus you get the plastic ammo can which comes in handy for other things. I use it for storing all of my knives.

Good AK Ammo

Date:November 26, 2011
I fired around 400 rounds this weekend in a new Saiga rifle. All ammo fired as it should have. I used the iron sights and hit several bulls eyes at 50 yards first time out.

Shot well for me

Date:September 28, 2011
I have seen some less-than-stellar reviews for this ammo, so I thought I'd try it. I bought 3 boxes (60 rounds) and shot 1 full mag through my AK-47, and 3 stripper clips of 10 through my SKS. Once is Chinese (SKS) one is Polish (AK).
Zero FTF, or FTEs. Went 'bang' every time, and my groups were similar to, and in some cases tighter than, Some of the Golden Tiger and Ulyanovsk FMJ that I was shooting as well.
I know it's a small sample size, but I ordered a 500 round dry box, and will shoot a fair bit more of this stuff in the next week or two.

Just as good as any "value" 7.62x39 ammo

Date:August 10, 2010
My Yugo SKS eats this stuff like candy. Feeds, fires, and ejects like a champ. Not one FTF or FTE in over 500 rounds so far. It's a bit "dirty," like every other 7.62x39 cartridge I've ever fired, but that's what solvents are for. Wouldn't use it for anything more than target shooting, but it's plenty good for that purpose.

AK47 test

Date:June 2, 2010
I ordered and timely received 1000 rds of this ammo. Usually shoot the Bear stuff, but decided to try this since it was on sale. A buddy and I shot 20 rds with my cheap AK. Performed flawless. We hit a plastic water bottle one time at about 40 yds. Pretty good for our rapid fire tendencies. This ammo is NOT as smokey as the Bear. Can't wait til we have more time and more plastic bottles.

Purchased 500rds for my WASR-10/63 and shot 230rds with no problems at all. Not one jam or misfire. Gun was a bit dirty after firing but nothing that can't be solved with cleaning.

great stuff

Date:April 2, 2010
bought 500 rounds for my saiga ak47 and i cant believe how good the stuff shoots. off handed me and my brother-in-law can hold 12' groups and hit stones and piles of horse turds in the fields at 200 yrds. when leaning off something does far greater than that. this stuff shoots so good that is has me wanting to spend more money at cabels and put a scope on my saiga.

Great Ammo, Better Price

Date:January 19, 2010
This ammo is great. My AK eats it up. No mis-fires so far and its consistent. Not too dirty either. It bears the Ulyanovsk head stamp on the case if I am correct. Which is interesting as it is advertised as actual Herter's brand. It also has mild steel under the copper shell (normal for most 7.62x39 cartridges) which may be a problem for some shooting ranges. All in all a good buy.
