Customer Reviews for F.LLI PIETTA 1858 New Army Stainless Steel Revolver with 5-1/2" Barrel

F.LLI PIETTA 1858 New Army Stainless Steel Revolver with 5-1/2" Barrel

This model is identical to the 1858 New Army stainless steel .44, but with a shortened 5-1/2" barrel for easy concealment. Made from rigid, tough and easy-to-maintain stainless steel with a brass trigger guard and walnut grips. The Remington Model 1858 was one of the most powerful and rugged performers of its day. Easily removable/replaceable cylinders made reloading extremely fast. Spare cylinders also available. Overall length: 11-1/2". Weight: 2 lbs. 9 oz.

1858 SS New Army 5.5" barrel

This is the second 1858 i've bought from Cabelas, the first being the blue/case colored with checkered grips. I got this one in lieu of finding a decent priced Ruger Old Army 5.5 barrel. This Cabelas is a beautiful pistol just like the first one I bought. At this time I am just collecting so the new ones I am not firing yet. If it shoots as well as it looks it would easily get 5 out of 5 stars. Since I am not shooting I will only give it 4 stars. Got it on sale at a great price. I would recommend this revolver to anyone!

EXTREMELY WELL MADE REVOLVER

By

IN MY OPINION, THIS IS THE FINEST BLACKPOWDER REVOLVER THAT CABELAS SELLS. THE 5 1/2" VERSION IS WELL BALANCED AND FEELS GOOD IN THE HAND. THE GRIPS FIT TIGHT TO THE FRAME AND THE FINISH IS SUPERB. COCKING IS BUTTERY SMOOTH AND THE CYLINDER LOCKUP IS TIGHT. SINCE I CLEAN MY BLACKPOWDER GUNS WITH SOAP AND HOT WATER, IT IS A COMFORT TO KNOW THAT STAINLESS STEEL RESISTS ANY CORROSION OR RUST. THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL GUN THAT I WILL TREASURE MY WHOLE LIFE.

This is a beautifully made firearm. As well as modern and fully functional. The stainless steel construction is low maintenance. With comfortable hardwood grips. A must have for beginner as well as experienced black powder shooters. I especially like the quick change cylinder.

No regrets about buying this gun....

By
Location: Phoenix, AZ.
I went in to buy the Blue Steel version of this gun, however, when I picked this one up I had to have it.
I took my 12 year old son to the range to try it out together. We kept the shooting at only 10 yards due to it being my sons first time out. We found that the gun shot pretty much to point of aim when using 40 grains of Pyrodex P and a .454 (speer) ball and Cabelas felt wads. I have not yet tried without the wads to determine if there were any ballistics changes.
I wiped the gun down after every cylinder and the soot came off with no effort. I swabbed the barrel a couple of time during the session and all residues came out effortlessly. Cleaning the gun afterwards was a snap.
I love the fit and finish on the revolver I got. There were some minor tool marks (really just grind marks) inside the frame at both the front and back. With the gun assembled there are no defects to be seen anywhere. Even the joint between trigger guard and frame is barely discernable.
When I see them on sale again I will get another.

Very Good

I found this item to be very good quality. The action is a little stiff, making cocking hard on the thumb. But I think that will loosen with use. All in all a very nice pistol.

Better than the picture...

By
I bought this black powder revolver from Cabelas based on many high user reviews, the picture of it really topped it off though. I must say, the picture does no justice of this beautiful piece of artwork. As I opened the box I was expecting to notice some minor flaws(fitting, grips, cylinder tightness, action), not a single flaw was noticed with this reproduction...I just melted in amazement of the quality. I still have not fired it, but can tell you that if it fires HALF as good as it looks I will be impressed. I like the raw photograph that Cabelas has on the website, it is not photoshopped or altered in any way to make the product look higher quality like some other sites I have bought from (which I will not name). What you see is what you get, a great product from a trustworthy retailer! Five stars!!!
