Ice Saw

By
Location: Kenai Peninsula, Alaska
I've used this saw for two winters so far here in Alaska. 90% of the time I leave the chain saw at home now. I use it on 2 feet of ice with NO problem what so ever. I am a darkhouse spearer and by using my power auger and this saw I can cut a spearing hole about 50% easier than using my chain saw and having to deal with two layers of blocks to remove once the ice is thicker than my chain saw bar.
It definitely is a bit "flimsy" in its strength of the blade so CARE must be taken when using this. But it cuts thru 30 inches of ice like a hot knife through butter. One of my friends uses his for setting beaver sets on his trapline and another uses his for spearing holes same as I. If I ever "break" this one where its no longer useable, I'll get another rather than go back to relying only on the chain saw all winter.

Average at Best

The tip of this saw broke off immediately. Not a major problem, I just re-ground the tip back to a point, after returning home. I wish the metal was of better quality, but I realize the price is the deciding factor there. Once I finally got "poked" through 14 inches of ice, this saw worked flawlessly. Great if you are a back lakes ice fisherman, as it is easily secured to a pack frame and a whole lot quieter and lighter than a chain saw. A good saw, with room for improvements.

Don't buy it!!

The first hole it worked great. Then noticed all the tips were bent over and dull. The nice sharp points all looked like fish hooks. I think they need to heat treat the blades. Very poor quality of metal.
