Berkley Berkley Air® IM7 Salmon/Steelhead Spinning Rods

The high-quality IM7 graphite blanks on these Air? series spinning rods are light, strong and sensitive. The rods in this series were specially designed by Buzz Ramsey for specific salmon and steelhead techniques. They have a Chromium SS304 Guide System that is 20 times stronger and up to 55% lighter than the conventional aluminum oxide guides you'll find on lesser rods. And a special guide-spacing concept is designed to maximize the strength of the blank and improve the overall sensitivity of the rod, so you'll be able to land the big ones even when they're biting like little ones.

Good rod for a great price

Date:October 4, 2007
After fishing a Loomis for the summer and snapping the tip (don't ask), I picked up a medium to get me through fall steelheading on the Deschutes and a little silver fishing on the Sandy.
I prefer the butt of this rod to the loomis. I think this cut down on wrist fatigue after an entire day of throwing spinners from the bank. I have a stradic 2500 on it and it's perfectly balanced. I've used a 4000 on it as well and been equally pleased.
I had some concerns about the shorter rod, but the length is still adequate to control slack on the surface and drop lures wherever I want.
Sensitivity is great. Slight takes by silvers and chinook are easily discernable. The rod still has enough beef to handle a chinook--but I'd recommend going to the heavy model for anything beyond silvers.
I've fished the medium and medium-heavy models and am happier than with a 10'6 loomis.
The final test of this rod will be in the winter when the water levels are higher. I'm suspecting that I'll find the medium-heavy necessary at that point.
This is a great rod that anyone will appreciate for the price.

Excellent Steelhead Getter

Date:September 24, 2007
This Buzz Ramsey Berkley rod was just what I needed to catch the feisty Rogue River half-pounders (one-salt steelhead)) on light marabou jigs. Coupled with a light-weight Shimano Sedona spinning reel, this responsive rod hooked up a bunch of fish this past Saturday. Great rod!

Berkeley IM7 Noodle

Date:December 5, 2006
Have enjoyed other rods in this series but was very diappointed in the 10'6 noodle. Poor feel compared to other rods and broke it on my second trip when trying to pull off a snag. Was actually happy that I broke it because it did not fish well.

Surf fishin w/ the Berkley Air

Date:November 20, 2006
I purchased a Berkley Air? IM7 Salmon/Steelhead Spinning Rod primarily for surf fishing the southern California surf. I currently use it with a Shimano Stradic 2500 w/ P-Line 8lbs test.
So far I've been more than happy with my purchase. After several months of use, it has provided the right combination of length, sensitivity, and backbone to handle to wide variety of species we encounter in the SoCal Surf. For example, on an outing this past summer, I caught an 8in barred surfperch followed by a 48+in shovelnose guitarfish. I was pleasantly surprised the find that the Berkley Air provided enough sensitivity to detect the bite of the perch and also had the backbone to handle a 4 ft plus beast.
The Berkley Air is especially nice in light of its more than reasonable price. I expected to pay more given it's quality of construction and components.
All in all, a good buy!

AIR 7

Date:October 22, 2006
I purchased two AIR 7 salmon rods in August of 2006 for use on Alaska's Kenai River. These rods were used every day for eight weeks of silver salmon fishing where the fish ran from 8-9 lbs on the small side up to an 18 lb silver that was the largest fish of the trip. These rods performed flawlessly with a wide variety of lures and line weights. It was the action of the AIR 7 that most impressed me, it's medium weight, fast action was the perfect combination for these fresh out of the ocean, ready to do battle fish we were after. I have used several other rods in the pursuit of both sockeye and coho salmon on the Kenai over the last several years and have never found a rod that performed as well, including several rods costing three time the price of this incredible bargain.
