Customer Reviews for Cabela's Cabela's Telescopic Panfish Poles

Cabela's Cabela's Telescopic Panfish Poles

Designed specifically as the ultimate panfish rod, these ultracompact telescopic poles provide superior portability, yet are extremely sensitive and versatile. The lightweight, high-modulus graphite blank is incredibly sensitive and will detect the slightest bites, and still will have enough strength to land the hardest fighters. A single chrome tip top makes it easy for you to tie on any size or length line you choose (although, we have found the rods perform best when you match the length of your line to the length of the rod). Includes a convenient carrying case.

Other than Fish

Date:May 16, 2011
This is a great product, though i don't actually use it for fishes. However, the size is great for backpacking, and it does not have an issue with the way it slides out. made of good sturdy materials.

This Panfish Pole Is Great for Banner Worship

Date:July 26, 2010
I purchased this telescopic panfish pole for somethng other that fishing. I use it to wave worship banners. Many banner worshipers around the world are looking for telescopic poles, either fiberglass or graphite, that don't have line keepers or any other appendages. They want a light, compact, and durable telescopic pole, and this one fits the bill! I would recommend this pole to my brothers and sisters who are searching for telescopic poles for banner worship.
Thanks, Cabela's!

Great hiking rod

Date:July 23, 2009
Fits perfect in my hydration pack. Excellent pole for those times when you wish you had a pole. It is not the "ideal" fishing pole for all situations, but it works great for that time you had wished you brought a pole. Can easily use it like a fly fishing rod, a spinner rod, or have some bait on the end. It is very light and goes unoticed while carrying it in the pack. The only thing is you have to be creative when making your line. Since this is a reel-less pole you have to make sections of line to be used quickly. I tied about 10 feet of fly fishing line with a 6 foot leader of 4lb test, the filament side has a clip that attaches to the pole in a snap. A very small tackle box supplies flies, spinners and hooks.
I love my pole. It is best used in small streams less than 30 feet in width.

Not too happy with it.

Date:July 15, 2009
Very flimsy rod, the tip snapped off the 1st time I extended the rod. Very difficult to collapse. Not worth the money...it's going back.

Telescopic Pan Fish Pole l star poor

Date:July 6, 2009
I believe this item was not inspected. It was supposed to be 14 ft; it measured 9 ft. Parts had to be missing. There was no ring at the top for attaching a line. I did not order a replacement. I did not wish to go through being disappointed again, an inferior product. Further it does not unlock easily as other poles do. Not this company's usual standard

Great product, horrible packaging

Date:March 18, 2009
These little poles are fabulous. They can be closed down to a size small enough to put in a back pocket, but can extend 10' or more.
The only downside is they come with a horrible amount of packaging. What a waste of resources! A big hard plastic container which is hard to open, and then gets thrown away, and then some other unnecessary stuff. It aggravates me every time I get one, and my friends hate it too!

As a tenkara rod......not good

Date:January 6, 2009
I bought this thinking it would be a good and cheap tenkara rod, but was utterly disappointed. It is very heavy and not a good substitute as I found.
It is very very cheap and I guess I did not buy it for the specified purpose, but I think it is not a good tenkara rod choice.
Also, the action is slightly stiffer than I'd like for the application. And I hear crackling sounds, which doesn't make me confident it will last long.

good pole

Date:October 30, 2008
I like the pole, especialy the fact that it colapses down so small. It definitely needs a way to store the line. I cut a groove in each end and wrap the line that way but I still don't have a good way to store the hook. Work good with flys.

144mhz j-pole antenna mast

Date:October 27, 2008
The fishing pole makes a wonderful mast to set up an antenna on 144mhz for emergency communications. Since it is fiberglass it does not interfere with the opertion of the antenna and is safe against contact with overhead wires. Since it collapses to 18 inches, is easily carried in a backpack, yet it is long enough to get the antenna well overhead.
My only problem is that I managed to break the thinnest segment, but it still works fine in my application.

Panfish Poles

Date:September 9, 2008
We use the poles with strip of plastic on the end to urge on one of our leaders of a 4-in-hand turnout without spooking the wheeler behind. The alternative was a 2 piece telescopic whip which is very bulky and difficult to handle in its collapsed state. (I'm not skilful enough to use a team whip like coachmen of old). As the panfish pole collapses to about 24 inches, it is easily stored on the carriage. I bought two as the postage to UK was the same price! Arrived less than a week after web order; Cabela went over the top in protective wrapping - if the delivery van had driven over the package, it still would have been okay.

panfish pole

Date:May 25, 2008
i own and have tried various other telescopic poles, but the cabela's pole is by far the best i have ever used. its light weight really helps me fish longer and much more comfortablely. the only fault that it has is that it does not provide the prongs to wind the line up on when your done fishing. i would like to see them make a one piece plastic device that would clip onto the pole to wind the line up on. i put two ez keepers on mine for that purpose but a clip on device would work better

Telescopic panfish poles

Date:September 10, 2007
Oddly enough I don't use these poles for fishing. I'm a field herpetologist and use them as lizard nooses. They are tough, compact and strong enough to pull even the largest North American lizard off a rock. The secret is now out.

Blue Gill Heaven

Date:June 18, 2007
After my first purchase of Cabela's telescopic Pan Fish Pole I immediately used it the next morning and caught by limit of Blue Gills in less than an hour. What an easy way to have a portable rod that preforms even for the larger fish like large mouth bass. Because of my experience I now have one of these gems in my car, house and golf bag (fully closed its only about 15 inches long !!).
