Fantastic product

Date:July 19, 2008
The LMS 525C Sonar GPS unit worked like a charm in both the navigational features and the fish indicators. I received the product about 5 days before a scheduled fishing trip outside of Prince Rupert BC. The installation went without a hitch and as a previous reviewer stated the instructions were a little more complicated than the actual installation itself. I used the appropriate navionics chart card for the area fished and found all the locations with ease. The display on this unit was 100% visible in all weather and lighting conditions we experienced while out fishing, the menus & prompts for the different operational modes were easily understood by a beginner with very little reading of the owners manual required before use. I would recommend this product to anyone, regardless of boating experience as the unit is user friendly yet offers all the bells and whistles that a seasoned boater could need.

Great Product

Date:April 27, 2008
I was a little intimidated by the installation instructions but found that it was much easier to install than described. I ran the wires right next to the other boat wiring and there is no problem at all. The GPS and to sonar work perfectly. I recommend getting the Navionics card to go along with this unit.

A great piece of equipment

Date:August 25, 2007
This GPS/Sonar unit is a great piece of equipment. I use the waypoint feature to mark fish, and the unit takes me right back to the same spot. I had a little trouble distinguishing fish on the sonar, but switched to Fish I.D., and it definately shows the fish. When I first received the unit I was somewhat overwhelmed by the manual, and all it's features. I took a 2 hour course at a local sporting goods store on how to use the unit. It was time well spent, and made me more comfortable with using it. I'd recommend taking a class to anyone who is not familiar with GPS/Sonar units. The basic operation is simple once you learn it. I downloaded the emulator from Lowrance, and that is also a great learning tool. Don't be afraid to play with the unit. You can always default back to the original settings. The tide and current feature is also amazing. The Lowrance LMS 525C packs a lot of features for the money.

Want to be a beta tester for lowrance?

Date:May 23, 2007
All you have to do is buy this unit. Mine is less than 1 month old and has software version 1.2. The current (as of today) version is 1.4. Lowrance says if I want the current version it will cost additional money, that was after 1+ hour on the lowrance service line. They say you can download the updated software from their website, but when I tried, it asked me for a password and would not let me download.
The map screen disappears, the units display freezes up and the only way to restart is to disconnect the unit from the battery.
When it does work for a few minutes it is nice and the sonar works good, but in the middle of the chesapeake bay in fog, you would like the map to work.
Lowrance was right about one thing, the very first screen that comes up upon turning the unit on says "DO NOT RELY ON THIS UNIT FOR NAVIGATION".
Good luck if you buy this.

Nice GPS/Sonar..........

Date:April 30, 2007
The 525 was easy to install (I installed on the RAM mount), and once on the lake was great! Excellent GPS detail, even on a small local lake in my area! I haven't had the opportunity to use on larger lakes with more detailed maps, but I'm happy with the details on smaller lakes and what I've seen from my experimentations. NICE DETAILED MAPS from the factory! The sonar is easy to use and read! I recommend this product to anyone who wants a top of the line Combo unit!
